After a tremendously
successful launch in mainland Europe, the GRIZZLY
series is here at last! Designed and engineered to be
a cut above the competition, these three boxes provide intelligent solutions
to all the shortcomings that prevent good boxes from being excellent. Roof
boxes are such relatively simple products that you might be surprised to know
that the grizzly range includes features not found in any other box in the
range, features that genuinely make a difference.
Roof
box to roof bar fittings:
Most 'quick release' fittings require two hands - one
to push a U bolt upwards from below the box, the other to push firmly down
on the quick release clamp inside the box. This is easy on e.g. full width
dual side opening boxes, less easy on narrower ones. KAMEI's solution is to
have fittings that grip the thread of the U bolt with minimum effort, so you
never need worry about a U bolt falling onto the car roof, and you can fit
both nearside and offside fittings very quickly and easily. Both the front
and the rear fittings slide so that you'll never need to drill new holes,
and there are even arrows on the sliders to mark the fitting holes. Extra
wide U bolts are also available. The fittings inside the box are also extra
low profile - tall fittings reduce both the useable height and width of a
box very considerably.
Central
locking: Always a neat idea, but the reality is that when your
box is full (which, believe it or not, does occasionally happen!) it can be
very awkward, with only one pair of hands, to hold down the front, middle
and rear of the box and turn the key at the same time. KAMEI has therefore
developed and patented a lock mechanism that allows the box to spring open
on its gas struts when the key is turned, but just 'clicks to shut' - in other
words you just pull down on the lid to close it. You know that the box is
shut because until it is you can't remove the key. The clips on the lid are
steel rather then plastic, and there's even a protector for the sliding bar
which operates the front and rear locks, removing the problem of items becoming
jammed in the mechanism and the consequent strain on the whole locking system.
Symmetry
without loss of style or function: This is one which customers
have often suggested over the years - a box which you can mount so that it
opens either from the left or the right hand side. (With the GRIZZLY
L you may well have space on your roof bars for two boxes, one e.g. for dry
gear, the other for wet sailing gear.)
Anti
vibration strips: The dense closed cell foam strip below the box
will prevent any irritating noise caused by the centre of the box vibrating
on the roof bars when it's empty - a problem with some boxes at certain speeds
when the box starts to resonate and that large empty space makes an ideal
'sound box'!
Add these
features to standard KAMEI materials and build quality and this is a range
which, judged on quality and function, will be very hard to beat! It's no
